DeJong's Insurance Services is a privately owned and operated general insurance brokerage in Calgary, Alberta established in 1962. The majority of our business is written from the referrals of satisfied customers.

We represent several major insurers with whom we have strong, longstanding relationships. This makes it possible for us to provide a wide range of competitively priced products and services. At the request of our clients in 1998 we added a financial services division, which enables us to assist our clients with other financial interests as well.

TIM DEJONG
owner/president

Tim DeJong has owned the firm since 1990 when he purchased the agency from his father Durk DeJong, the agency's founder. Over the years Tim has spent countless hours getting to know our clients needs, concerns and interests. This allows him to skillfully represent their requirements to insurance company underwriters and in so doing secure the most cost effective and comprehensive insurance coverage available. Prior to purchasing the firm, Tim applied his skills and knowledge to build a strong client base for DeJong's and continues to represent clients with whom he has worked for years. Following the purchase of the agency, Tim created the Health and Financial Division of the firm to ensure our clients have opportunity to pursue theirs needs in this area with a long-time, trusted representative. Through his professionalism and dedication to quality, personal service, Tim has gained the trust and admiration of our clients.

TREVOR STEWART
owner/vice-president

Trevor Stewart has been in the insurance industry for fifteen years, starting in the mailroom with ING / Western Union in 1988. He worked his way through many departments in the company and found his niche in underwriting. After seven years Trevor took a break and moved to Australia for a year to gain some international experience. Upon return Trevor resumed his insurance career with the Economical Insurance Group where he spent the next five years in the Underwriting Department. Eventually Trevor decided his insurance knowledge and people skills could best be used in a more personal manner and joined Tim DeJong and his team in early 2000. At DeJong's he has been a catalyst in keeping our agency current with the new technology evolving in the insurance industry. In addition to being responsible for all system requirements and managing the office, Trevor is a leading producer in areas of insurance focusing on large commercial accounts and production insurance. Trevor and Tim secured a long-term relationship in early 2004 when Trevor was offered shares in DeJong's Insurance. He is now a proud owner and the vice-president of the firm.

DURK DEJONG

Durk DeJong, the founder and past president of the company, created the solid infrastructure on which DeJong's has grown over the years and now holds the distinguished position as our Financial Accounts Executive. He is responsible for the financial operations of our company.

MELANIE BROWN, F.C.I.P.
personal lines manager

Melanie started in the insurance industry in September 1997 as a student in the Mount Royal College Business Administration and General Insurance Program where she graduated with honors in June of 1999. She gained employment with the Economical Insurance Group soon after where she worked as an underwriter in the Personal Lines Department. Melanie became a Certified Insurance Professional (CIP) in November 2000 and joined the DeJong's team in August 2001. She has since acquired her Level II broker license, receiving the highest mark in her class. In 2007 Melanie completed the Fellow Chartered Insurance Professional (FCIP) program as well as the Certified Risk Management certification (CRM) through the Risk & Insurance Management Society. Melanie currently supervises all Personal Lines activities and is expanding her knowledge in commercial insurance. In addition to her insurance role, Melanie is our Privacy Officer and is responsible for ensuring our office complies with the requirements of Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).

CHRISTINE STEWART
account executive

Christine joined our firm in the fall of 2006 after managing the office of a major real estate firm. She has extensive knowledge in office administration and accounting and has recently completed the Level I general insurance license. Christine's superior customer service and organization skills make her a valued asset for our team, and we look forward to utilizing her skills for the growth and continued success of DeJong's.

ALANNA GIBSON

Alanna joined the DeJong's team in September of 2007 after spending several years in the auto industry. Alanna's infectious enthusiasm and happy demeanour make her a great addition to our office, and our clients enjoy working with her. She has completed her Level I general insurance license and is looking forward to developing her career in the industry.

Dean became part of the Dejong's team in June 2008 following 18 years of customer service and managerial experience. Dean has obtained his Level I general insurance licence and is looking forward to developing his career in the industry. Dean's superior customer service skills and enthusiasm make him a valued addition to our team.

Shelley has been a part of the Dejong's team since August of 2008 after many years of customer service experience with a major communications company. Shelley is eager to build a career in the insurance industry.

KRISTA CLEARY

Krista is the newest addition to our team and joins to us after spending several years in the customer service department of a major financial institution. Coming to us from Ontario, Krista is excited to be living in Calgary and starting a new career at Dejong's.
